Wall Murals

This has defiantly been a busy time for myself, helping students to finish off any outstanding projects and preparing for their final exhibition.

Rather that produce the standard final exhibition of 'here is your section, mount your work' we are going to try and be more creative, seen as though we are a GRAPHIC DESIGN course.

We have decided to produce a collective wall montage/mural, so I have been looking for some interesting/inspiring pieces that might help the students.

Even though our theme will be the Olympics, here are some general wall murals that I have found.

Josip Kelava

Whilst browsing through this months Advanced Photoshop Magazine (#95), I came across Josip Kelava a Croatian born Melbourne based designer. His work really stood out to me with his bold use of type and imagery, so I thought I would check out his website.

Josip graduated form the University of Swinburne Faculty of Design and has been driven by something one of his lecturers told him.

"The worst thing a designer can do is not get noticed."

This helped Josip to realise that its not always about the outcome of a design, but to make a piece look good and evoke an emotional response from the viewer. This has driven him to produce some visually inspiring pieces of design work.

Josip may produce images that use bold shapes and block colours, but he also considers the small intricate details. This makes all the difference between producing good designs and those designs that make you take notice.

Here are a few more examples of his work. I especially like the Hulk, Narnia and Manifesto designs.
Check out his website for other pieces of design work.

Sergey Sbss

During my endless searching of the internet for any creative design work, I've stumbled across Sergey Sbss a Graphic artist from Moscow, Russia. Sergey's bright angular shapes within his artwork help to create a very unique style.

Sergey's work has been published in a variety of different magazines, etc. For example the illustration to the right was printed in the Computer Arts Magazine #138 July 2010.

Looking through his website and the designs that he has produced. He seems to enjoy producing work for a variety of different medias i.e. Clothing, Bags, Toys and Skate-decks. This allows his work to be seen by a wider audience and therefore allowing them to see what he is capable of producing.

Here are a few other examples of Sergey's work:

 Examples of his clothing designs.
An example of his artwork produced on a Kidrobot Dunny toy.
 Some Bodhi Wolk examples.

Finally, some snowboard designs.

Secretly Swedish

Continuing with the theme of showing some great design work, I thought I would show one of my friends companies 'Secretly Swedish'.

Mark Gamble is a great designer having worked in different areas of the design business. He produces some very creative yet simple vector graphic artwork. Mark uses his creative skills to produce very colourful images for either his own t-shirts or for his clients. He has worked on/with a wide variety of clients such as... Nokia, Tesco Mobile and The Get Up Kids to name just a few.

Here are some of his design pieces.

Graphic tshirts

One of my favourite things to shop for are graphic design tshirts. During my search for some tshirts I have stubbled across a design company from Sheffield called Hantu. They have produced some great products including tshirts, jumpers, etc.

Here are a few examples of their great work. I particularly like the first design, this was created by Geo Law. Geo's work is really creative and the use of colour within his work helps the designs to stand out.
